3 Easy Ways to Prepare Before Movers Arrive 1. Make sure all boxes are taped closed (this will speed up the loading
process) and labeled 'FRAGILE' and/or which room they belong in.
2. Unplug or disconnect all appliances and electronics.
Some movers will not move certain items until they are turned off and disconnected (because of liability issues) and again
this will save you time and money.
3. Keep all estimate paperwork, checkbook (or method of payment), coupons, and other important documents (such as lease documents or homebuyer paperwork) in a special place so they
don't get packed up or misplaced during the move.
There are MANY more ways to prepare for your move, do you
have any tips? Have you moved locally and realized you could have been more prepared before moving day arrived?

Severe Weather - Get Notified For $6 With all the crazy recent Kansas City
weather we’ve had, wouldn’t it be nice to get telephone or email notification of nearby severe weather? The National
Weather Service has changed the way we are all notified when there is dangerous weather nearby.
Warnings used to be issued
based on county boundaries, but now they have created a more precise method of sending out these warnings – called Storm-based
Warnings. These reduce the size of the warning area by about 75 percent and alleviate worry by people who are not within several
hundred miles of the storm’s path, but happen to be in the same county. Learn more HERE.
I recently found out about a great service offered by KMBC Channel 9. It's called FirstAlert WeatherCall that sends a storm-based warning from Chief Meteorologist Bryan Busby straight to your phone when your location is within the warning area. You pay $6 per year and have access to tornado warnings, severe thunderstorm warnings, and
flash flood warnings. For this low fee, you can register one address and up to 3 telephone numbers and 3 email addresses
to receive the message. Learn More HERE.

Where & What to Recycle! Whether you are moving
cross-country or within a city, it is important to dispose of hazardous materials you find lurking in those dark corners of
the garage or basement beforehand. Legally, these items cannot be packed or shipped on a moving truck (unless that truck is
properly certified and labeled). Common items are kerosene, lighter fluid, motor oil, gasoline, old batteries, and paint.
Checking a container label for terms like flammable, toxic, corrosive, or reactive, will let you know if it is a household
hazardous waste. Other signal words are DANGER, CAUTION, or WARNING!
Luckily, in Kansas City, there are many locations to dispose of hazardous waste and recycle other unused items instead
of dumping them in the trash. Check out RecycleSpot.org and find a location near you before moving day arrives!

Ways to Protect Your Valuables Most of us would say that our personal belongings are valuable
to us. Some of these things may have sentimental value or monetary value – jewelry, important
documents, or other valuables like family heirlooms. Regardless of their worth, they may be irreplaceable if lost, stolen,
or burned in a fire.
One
way to protect those possessions is to keep a safe within the home or office. There are many safes on the market today to
choose from – different sizes, prices, and safety ratings. It is
hard to know which one would work best for your situation and the items you are looking to protect.
American Security Products (AMSEC) has become one of the world's best-known providers
of security safes and security solutions. Use their website tool to guide you through the steps of choosing a safe that fits
your needs.
